My research
"Life as we know it would not be possible without the internet, and this infrastructure is operated in a decentralized manner. This is the key to the internet's resilience, but it also means that there is no plan for its structure or further development. In my research, I study internet protocols, i.e., rules for how communication systems communicate with each other, and empirically investigate the status quo of the internet in measurement experiments. To do this, I develop and validate novel measurement methods, conduct large-scale measurement experiments, and analyze the collected data. The results allow conclusions to be drawn about the centralization of the internet or its security in general. With the advance of digitalization, I also investigate the interdependencies between the internet and other critical infrastructures such as the power grid."
