With approximately 180 degree programmes, literally ranging from A to Z, the University of Vienna offers the widest range of degree programmes in Austria. Every year, about 10,000 of our students graduate and are using their knowledge and skills to influence future generations as alumni and alumnae of the University of Vienna. They shape the future.   

 

 

Better teaching and studying

The Center for Teaching and Learning is the University of Vienna’s higher education didactics unit supporting the fields of university teaching and studying with a wide range of expertise. Its diverse services target teachers, stakeholders, students and student multipliers. The University of Vienna wants to increase the number of exams taken by students with projects under the umbrella of Active Studying. Low-threshold offers, such as writing mentoring or study camps, have a direct effect on a student’s study career. The UNIVIE Teaching Award serves to award teachers giving outstanding courses. For the acquisition of interdisciplinary, professional supplementary additional qualifications, the Postgraduate Center offers postgraduate programmes.

MOOCs

Digital teaching

As a university renowned for its face-to-face teaching, the University of Vienna has mastered the special challenge posed by COVID-19: The University of Vienna can also go digital. The necessity of digital interaction between teachers and students has led to innovative solutions for digital teaching. Also beyond the crisis, the University exerts impact with digital courses: iMoox.at is the Austrian platform for massive open online courses (MOOC). It makes digital university courses accessible free of charge to everybody. With its broad range of disciplines, the University of Vienna contributes a selected portfolio of MOOCs, in which academics explain complex contents in an interdisciplinary way and from multiple perspectives. MOOCs give participants room for discussion and facilitate the development of an individual position, completely digital and free of charge.

Service Learning

Third Mission in teaching

Service learning as a form of education combines social commitment and the students' further acquisition of subject-specific, methodological and social competences. Courses focusing on service learning enable participants to cooperate with partners in practice and to transfer their knowledge to practice. A range of successful service learning projects have already been carried out at the University of Vienna, including the Social Entrepreneurship application seminar and the course "Migration und Diversität im Unterrichtsfach Geographie und Wirtschaftskunde" (migration and diversity in the teaching subject of Geography and Economics)(in German).  Well connected graduates

The University of Vienna’s Alumni Association (in German) invites graduates to engage in exchange and stay in contact in networks, allowing them to launch new initiatives and projects for the future of the University and our next generation of graduates. The annual Entrepreneurship Night presents successful entrepreneurs who graduated from the University of Vienna and their businesses – ranging from one-person enterprises and green and digital businesses to growth-oriented companies – and provides an insight into start-up practice. The u:start training programme (in German) offers an extensive range of services regarding self-employment and starting a business to graduates and students.

Next step – starting a career

The uniport careers service (in German) offers an extensive range of services to graduates who start(ed) a career and to students who will soon graduate. UNIPORT actively connects knowledge and competences of members of the University of Vienna with professional life and society. Furthermore, it initiates cooperation with businesses and institutions in all fields and promotes the mutual exchange of knowledge.

Vienna Children’s University

Enjoying education

The Vienna Children’s University offers more than 400 lectures and workshops to children. It gives them the opportunity to meet academics and gain a first impression of the University of Vienna and its spheres of action.
