Research areas:

* Complex electrolytes on surfaces and interfaces
* Interface-induced melting of ice
* Structure and dynamics of ultrathin liquid films under shear

"During interface-induced melting of ice, a thin liquid film forms on solids even below the actual melting point. We are investigating the formation and properties of this melt layer in the vicinity of porous clay minerals. Our results can help to understand changes in permafrost with rising temperatures."
