"The achievements of the rule of law and democracy cannot be taken for granted, but are highly fragile. For them to endure, we need to be convinced to stand up for them. Research in the philosophy of law contributes to an understanding of these achievements by critically rethinking the legitimacy of the law and offering points of reference in order to constantly reassure ourselves of its foundations. It thus also makes an important contribution to social debates." (Anne Kühler)
