Porträt Anna Durnova

Loneliness is increasingly recognized as a central social challenge — not only as an individual emotion, but also as a complex condition that affects health, social cohesion, and trust in institutions. In her ERC-funded research project LONERS, sociologist Anna Durnová investigates how loneliness is emotionally experienced and how it is framed in public discourse. Through a multi-method study conducted in Austria, Slovakia, Italy, and the Netherlands, the project examines how institutions respond to loneliness — and how they might address or regulate it in the future.
