As Austria’s largest research and education institution, the University of Vienna provides stimuli in a variety of ways everyday and is engaged in a constant dialogue with the business world, culture and society. The University thus makes a difference in everyday life in different ways. About 9,000 students graduate from the University of Vienna every year. The University prepares them for a professional career and encourages critical thinking and self-determined decision-making.
Academic research in exchange with society and the business world
Universities are increasingly required to actively promote academic findings in society and the business world and to address questions from practice in their activities. Numerous academics supported by different service units are involved in this knowledge exchange at the University of Vienna. Support offers range from assistance in knowledge exchange and technology transfer with partners in the economy and society to career services for graduates, postgraduate programmes and measures aimed at presenting and communicating findings from research. In addition, the University places particular focus on the promotion of entrepreneurial actions of its students and academics. Outstanding basic research fostered by the University of Vienna and the research-led teaching based on it are the prerequisites for a successful knowledge exchange and enable the University to address questions from practice. The main focus is on making a contribution to facing current societal challenges at a local, regional and global level.
