Jonas Ries
Life is based on the action and interaction of proteins and their complexes. In the ERC project “CellStruct” Jonas Ries and his team are developing new optical microscopy technologies to visualise the structure and structural changes of such molecular machines during their function in the cell. To this end they are developing new approaches for super-resolution microscopy with nanometer spatial resolution and new algorithms and software to analyse large data sets. The researchers are using these technologies to investigate the process of endocytosis, by which cells take up molecules. A current focus of their work is to reach structural resolution for dynamic measurements even in living cells. Note: Grant transferred to the University of Vienna (2021)
