Mária Vargha
In the Middle Ages, narratives of Christianisation were constructed mainly based on written accounts and the foundation of the highest ecclesiastical institutions, thus creating a narrative of the secular and ecclesiastical elite. In the project RELIC, medievalist and archaeologist Mária Vargha brings a new perspective. The study’s primary goal is a comparative investigation of the Christianisation processes in East-Central Europe by an interdisciplinary approach, focusing on the Christianisation of the ordinary population and thus bringing a unique perspective. Vargha will use innovative methods applied to a large dataset to make a comparative assessment of archaeological and historical evidence. Understanding historical processes from the general population's perspective is crucial for a comprehensive understanding of the politicised narratives of the Middle Ages.
