Ulrike Felt investigates the remnants of major fields of innovation. The Innovation Residues project focuses explicitly on three of these ‘residues’, which contain very different stories, demonstrate power relations and allow for new insights into the way we think and act as a society: nuclear waste, microplastics and collecting and storing digital data – the latter being a residue whose consequences society is probably not yet fully aware of. The project thus aims to understand the position that these remnants take in an innovation society, how we take care of them, how this shapes our decision-making and our relationship towards innovation, and what role questions of a sustainable future and responsibility play.
