"In my research, the social history of punishment, labour and empire-making is the entry point for the understanding of large and burning questions of the past and the present, such as power, social and gender inequalities, migrations, racism and war. My reflections on historical theory and methodology offer a perspective to look at how social proceses have been and are constructed, and could be transformed in the future. My research-based teaching aims to stimulate the individual and collective participation of the students in their own development as researchers, educators and critical thinkers." (Christian G.
